Bridging Online and Offline at Scale: MYDIN's Headless Ecommerce Transformation

MYDIN is one of Malaysia's largest hypermarket and retail chains, with a wide network of physical stores across the country. Sweetmag partnered with MYDIN to build their Ecommerce platform from the ground up on a headless architecture, Adobe Commerce paired with a Vue Storefront/Alokai PWA front end, designed to bridge their new online store with their existing offline operations.

Challenge

Before this project, MYDIN had no Ecommerce presence at all. Their only online footprint was a WordPress corporate site, informational, not transactional. For a retailer of MYDIN's scale, that meant a huge base of loyal, in-store shoppers had no way to buy from MYDIN online, and MYDIN had no digital sales channel to complement its physical stores. Building an Ecommerce platform from scratch also meant it needed to be built right the first time: fast enough to handle MYDIN's high-traffic sales events, and connected to the retail infrastructure MYDIN already relied on, inventory, logistics, POS, and loyalty, rather than launched as a disconnected online channel bolted onto an in-store business.

Goal

Build MYDIN's first Ecommerce platform from the ground up: fast, scalable, and capable of handling major sales-event traffic from day one, while unifying online and offline operations through deep integrations across logistics, POS, and loyalty systems, giving MYDIN a digital presence that matched the scale of its physical retail footprint.

Solution

Sweetmag built MYDIN's Ecommerce platform from scratch around a headless architecture, combining Adobe Commerce with a Vue Storefront/Alokai PWA front end, then connected it to MYDIN's core operational systems.

Headless Architecture for Performance at Scale

By decoupling the front end from Adobe Commerce using Vue Storefront/Alokai, Sweetmag gave MYDIN a storefront built for speed from day one, capable of handling the traffic surges that come with major sales events without the performance issues typical of a traditional, monolithic Ecommerce setup.

Logistics & Fulfilment Integration

Sweetmag integrated the platform with Delyva and Ac2Wave, automating inventory management and logistics processes from launch rather than relying on manual handling, freeing MYDIN's team to focus on strategic work rather than repetitive operational tasks.

Omnichannel Consistency with Barter POS

The platform was connected to MYDIN's Barter POS system, unifying sales data across MYDIN's brand-new online channel and its existing physical stores. This gave MYDIN a single, accurate view of inventory across the entire business from the very start, rather than treating Ecommerce as a separate system to reconcile later.

Xilnex Loyalty Membership Integration

Sweetmag integrated Xilnex Loyalty Membership into the platform, connecting MYDIN's loyalty programme directly into the new shopping experience and giving customers a consistent rewards experience whether they shopped online or in-store.
