A Full Feature Upgrade for GDEX's Customer Mobile App

GDEX is one of Malaysia's leading courier and logistics providers, and the parent company of Sweetmag under the GDEX Berhad group. GDEX already had a mobile app in place, but it needed a substantial upgrade to bring its features up to the level customers and merchants actually expected. Sweetmag was engaged to rebuild and expand the app as a hybrid mobile app for iOS and Android.

Challenge

GDEX's existing app was limited in scope, covering the basics but falling short of what both everyday customers and business merchants needed from a modern logistics app. Customers wanted a genuinely useful self-service tool: tracking shipments, estimating rates, and finding outlets without needing to call or visit a branch. Merchants needed considerably more: the ability to manage shipments, pickups, and payments directly from their phone, functionality that essentially required its own dedicated merchant experience within the same app, integrated with GDEX's existing myGDEX web platform data rather than operating as a disconnected system.

Goal

Deliver a rebuilt, feature-rich hybrid mobile app for GDEX covering both guest/customer functionality and full merchant self-service tools, integrated with GDEX's existing myGDEX platform, backend systems, and third-party services.

Solution

Sweetmag rebuilt the GDEX app as a hybrid app using the Flutter framework, with a dedicated backend and admin layer supporting both consumer and merchant experiences.

Consumer & Guest Tools

Sweetmag built a full set of self-service tools for everyday users, including shipment tracking, rate estimation, outlet search with map integration, and a volumetric calculator, giving customers the ability to get the information they need without contacting GDEX directly.

Merchant Self-Service Portal Within the App

For business merchants, Sweetmag built a considerably deeper set of tools: shipment submission for both single and bulk shipments, pickup request management, an in-app wallet for payments and balance tracking, and order and profile management, effectively giving merchants a full logistics management tool in their pocket rather than requiring desktop or counter-based processes.

Admin Backend & Content Management

Sweetmag built an admin backend giving GDEX's team control over the app's content and communication, including managing marketing content, sending notifications and announcements, and general app administration.

Deep Integration with GDEX's Existing Systems

The app was integrated with GDEX's myGDEX platform for merchant profile, address book, and wallet data, alongside rate calculation, tracking, invoicing, and consignment note generation systems, live chat support, and social login options, ensuring the app worked as a genuine extension of GDEX's existing infrastructure rather than a standalone build.
