Challenge

Car buying in Hong Kong, like most markets, had always meant a showroom visit: browsing in person, speaking with a sales consultant, and completing paperwork on-site before a reservation was confirmed. Physical space is genuinely scarce in Hong Kong, and while showrooms remain popular, that scarcity makes every square foot, and every sales opportunity within it, more valuable. Globally, the direct-to-consumer, fully online reservation model had already been pioneered by Tesla, and XPENG's own principal in China was operating the same online-first flow. As one of the pioneering EV brands entering Hong Kong, XPENG wanted to bring that same global direction to the market, rather than reintroduce a traditional showroom-first buying journey in a new territory. No automotive brand had yet built that experience in Hong Kong, so this meant building it without a local precedent to follow. Beyond breaking new ground, an online reservation system meant handling something a typical Ecommerce store doesn't: real payment for a real vehicle reservation, which meant the platform needed secure, trustworthy payment and identity verification built in from the start.

Goal

Build Hong Kong's first online car reservation platform for XPENG, bringing the brand's global direct-to-consumer model to a new market, letting customers browse, configure, and reserve a vehicle entirely online, while giving XPENG's sales teams a tool to close leads on the spot rather than losing momentum to follow-up delays. All of this backed by secure payment processing and identity verification suited to a high-value transaction, not just checkout for a typical Ecommerce order.

Solution

Sweetmag built XPENG Hong Kong's platform on Adobe Commerce, combining a full digital showroom experience with a custom-built reservation and payment system, then connected it to Salesforce so the platform could double as a tool for the sales team itself.

Comprehensive Digital Showroom & Configuration

The platform functions as a sophisticated digital showroom, giving prospective buyers detailed information, high-resolution imagery, and immersive views of XPENG's EV lineup. Customers can explore models, review features, and configure their desired vehicle, arriving at the reservation step with everything they need to decide with confidence.

Pioneering Online Car Reservation System

Sweetmag developed Hong Kong's first-of-its-kind online car reservation system for XPENG, letting customers select their model, choose specifications, and complete a reservation directly through the website. This brought XPENG's global online-first sales model, already proven by Tesla and by XPENG's own principal in China, into Hong Kong for the first time, turning a process that traditionally required a showroom visit into a streamlined digital journey from start to finish.

A Sales Enablement Tool, Not Just a Customer Platform

With space at a premium in Hong Kong's showrooms, the platform's Salesforce integration turned online reservation into more than a self-service option, it became a tool sales staff could use directly with a customer in front of them, closing a lead on the spot instead of losing momentum to delays and follow-up paperwork.

Customised Payment Gateway & OTP Verification

Because a car reservation involves real money and real commitment, not a typical online purchase, Sweetmag built a customised payment gateway module to handle reservation payments securely, paired with OTP integration for customer registration and login. This gave XPENG's customers the confidence that both their identity and their payment were properly protected at every step.

Fully Responsive, Security-First Platform

The entire platform was built fully responsive and mobile-ready, with web security built into the foundation, ensuring customers could browse, configure, and reserve confidently from any device, whether used by a customer at home or a salesperson on the showroom floor.
